Racing to Zero and Athletics Ontario are pleased to announce a new program that will provide mentorship to five Environmental Program Coordinators hired under the Canada Summer Jobs program. This initiative aligns with both organizations’ commitment to sustainability and professional development within the sport sector.
Racing to Zero, a full-suite sustainability consultancy led by Canadian Olympians and Paralympians, supports sports organizations in taking meaningful climate action. Athletics Ontario, the provincial governing body for athletics, is dedicated to fostering growth and excellence in the sport through partnerships and community engagement.
The mentorship program will support five Environmental Program Coordinators, who are young professionals hired through the Canada Summer Jobs program, by connecting them with experienced sport and sustainability experts. Throughout June to August, the Environmental Program Coordinators will receive guidance on integrating environmental best practices into Athletics Ontario’s programming, event management, and organizational operations, leveraging their relative scopes of control and influence as a Provincial Governing Body.
“This collaboration reflects our belief in the power of sport to drive positive environmental change, supporting a great organization while also educating the next generation of athletes about solutions to major climate issues in sport,” said Oliver Scholfield, Executive Director of Racing to Zero. “This program will also support Athletics Ontario in their efforts towards a more sustainable future.”
The mentorship program will run throughout the summer of 2026.
