In January, Freestyle Canada officially released its Environmental Sustainability Strategy, the result of a multi-phase project working with Racing to Zero as part of the Canadian Olympic Committee’s (COC) NSO Sustainability Pilot Project. This project was supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Solidarity Programme.
The strategy outlines Freestyle Canada’s roadmap to a more climate-friendly future, including short, medium and long-term actions, policy enhancements, and advocacy efforts. It also establishes ambitious emissions reduction targets aligned with the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework.
From April 2025 to January 2026, Freestyle Canada and Racing to Zero worked closely in developing this sustainability strategy, ensuring that the steps laid out are both impactful and achievable. As part of the NSO Sustainability Pilot Project, emissions from the 2024/25 season were measured to establish a baseline for future tracking, and an educational workshop was delivered to engage and inform staff members on the work completed.
Building on this foundation, Freestyle Canada and Racing to Zero will continue to work together through 2028 to bring this plan into action.
